AREC (Animal Referral and Emergency Centre) was established in 2004 and is a privately owned and operated emergency veterinary hospital led by a singular, highly regarded emergency veterinarian, Dr. David Tabrett, who continues to work within the business. The Role:
AREC offers an Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Development Programme suitable for vets working in general practice who are interested in becoming emergency clinicians and for vets with some ER experience who want to progress their ECC skills.
Whether you are a recent graduate or an experienced veterinarian, the AREC ECC Veterinary Development Programme offers veterinarians a tailored training programme to become confident clinicians in emergency and critical care.
The programme includes:

Initial shifts are shadow shifts involving training on the floor and working alongside our senior clinicians before starting any primary case management

These are followed by working supported shifts in which there is no sole charge work, so you can continue to learn under the guidance of our experienced ER vets.

Enrolment in Improve International Accelerated Emergency Programme: a comprehensive 3-month online course with weekly modules

Mentoring sessions and case reviews with your veterinary Team Leader
In-house training in the form of:

Practical wet labs: training in procedures/surgeries such as chest tube and feeding tube placement, tracheostomy, pericardiocentesis, splenectomy, enterotomy and gastropexy

CPR RECOVER Certified Training
-
Ultrasound training
-
Rounds: shared case discussions
-
Ventilator training
-
Endoscopy training
-
Consult skills training
-
Mental Health First Aid training
Your Skills & Experience:
-
Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, or equivalent veterinary degree registrable in Australia, NSW.

A Veterinarian with at least 12 months experience. Training in core skills and mentoring from our Senior vets will be provided

Able to work shared overnights, weekends & public holidays – because that’s when the most fun happens.
