Big things are happening. Be part of it.
At AREC, we’re growing, and we’re looking for a Veterinary Oncologist who’s ready to grow with us.
Whether you’re board-certified or residency-trained, this is an opportunity to shape the future of oncology services in a hospital that values clinical excellence, ethical medicine and genuine work-life balance.
Why AREC?
We’re a purpose-built, 24/7 emergency and referral hospital with over 110 team members and a big vision. Since 2004, we’ve been providing best-practice care to animals across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, the Hunter Valley and beyond. Now, we’re expanding into a brand-new, custom-designed hospital; a hospital dedicated to best-practice veterinary care, where every patient benefits from the combined expertise of our growing referral team.
With specialists in surgery, medicine, rehabilitation and more working side by side, we’re creating a truly collaborative environment that puts comprehensive, high-quality care at the centre.
Our model supports collaboration across specialties, and we’re committed to sustainable rosters and healthy caseloads. You'll have the time, space and support to do your best work, and to keep learning along the way.
Our new hospital includes:
- Two surgical theatres
- Quiet lactation/parents' room, a space to support feeding, expressing and caring for your child during the workday.
- Comfortable spaces for staff to rest and reset (including large staff room with massage chair)
- On-site pharmacy
- Full in-house lab
- Separate wards for exotics, cats and infectious patients
- Specialist diagnostic imaging suite with CT, otoscopy and ultrasound
- A dedicated ICU
- Eight consult rooms
What’s in it for you?
We know what makes specialist and referral work rewarding and what makes it hard. That’s why we offer:
- Visa sponsorship and relocation support, including rent-free accommodation to get you started
- Flexible employment arrangements, designed to work around your life
- Competitive salary + profit share + employee stock ownership
- Generous CPD support, including paid conference leave and funding for professional memberships
- Five weeks of annual leave
- Experienced nursing and support teams
- A collaborative, values-led culture
- Access to an Employee Assistance Program, wellbeing initiatives and a supportive leadership team
- We’re also proudly independent. That means our decisions are made locally, by people who know the team and care about the work.
Who are we looking for?
You’re a qualified veterinarian with:
- A degree recognised for registration in NSW (e.g. BVSc, DVM or equivalent)
- Whether you're looking to lead a new service, join an established one, or blend clinical and teaching interests, we’re happy to shape the role to suit the right person.
- A genuine interest in building something meaningful
- A commitment to professional integrity, patient-centred care and team collaboration
- Board certified or completion of an approved residency in veterinary oncology
